There is little left to write about Hatsune, Kagen, or Kagen Teppanyaki which hasn't already been written.

Winners of countless awards (Thats BJ Restaurant Awards, City Weekend "Best Asian Cuisine" Award 2006, and many more..), this trio of fine Japanese restaurants on Guanghua Lu just East of the East Third Ring Road (and East of Sunshine 100), offer arguably Beijing's finest Japanese food served in a stylish and contemporary setting.

The wide selection of often unusual sushi rolls are a favourite for many a Beijing connoisseur of Japanese cuisine, and the fresh sashimi, grilled fish, and deep fried pork slices (not what they sound!) are guaranteed to please the most demanding of gourmets.

For those who find raw fish a bit too raw, and far too fishy, there are Hatsune's sister restaurants Kagen and Kagen Teppanyaki. In the basement below Hatsune, Kagen serves up delicious grilled Japanese cuisine and hot pot in a similarly cultured setting to Hatsune above. Diners can watch on as chefs prepare delicious teppanyaki style dishes from the finest and freshest available ingredients in front of their very eyes!

First time visitors will be tickled by the lack of door bell or handle on the entrance to Kagen. A bit of trial and error and the door opens as if by magic, and you're in to the secret world of grilled Japanese food (with a dash of Crystal Maze or Doctor Who, depending on your vintage!). So secret it is in fact that everyone in Beijing knows about it - and for good reason!
