Galatea Bridal takes its name from an ivory statue created by a sculptor called Pygmalion in Greek legend. According to the myth, Pygmalion was so moved by the statue's beauty that he fell in love with it and, moved by his sincerity, the goddess Aphrodite brought Galatea to life.

Galatea Bridal entered the China market in September 2006, establishing its flagship store at Jianwai SOHO, in the heart of Beijing's CBD, to bring the latest styles and fashions to brides in the Middle Kingdom.
